For those who are still having trouble getting hired at oDesk, don't give up. Why do you think oDesk gives you a job quota of up to 20 applications in a week? You have to make the most out of it.

I came across this blog post pointing out the reasons why providers aren't getting hired for online jobs and it's something that you should read as well. It's so true how the smallest detail like your profile picture can make or break your chances of getting hired.

I also want to add more to my previous post which included an overview about creating a cover letter. If you already tried applying to jobs, you must have known by now that you can't go back to the application and edit your cover letter so it's important to do it right the first time. Tweak your cover letter accordingly:

* DO NOT use "To Whom It May Concern" or "Dear Sir/Ma'am" greeting. If you can find the buyer's name in the job post, use that. If there's no name, use Dear Hiring Manager simply say "Hello" followed by a brief introduction to yourself.

* DO try to include or rephrase how the buyer described the job post as it is an effective way to customize your cover letter and give an impression that you are really paying attention to the job description.

* You've been seeing the Attachment box right below the cover letter section when you apply to jobs but it says you can't upload a Resume so what do you use it for? Uploading documents or files to support your application. It can be a video clip, power point presentation, audio, a program, quick books, etc.

If you're working on something viewable online like a blog or website, you include link/s on your cover letter (and portfolio).
